1. talk someone into something

- to convince someone to do something

- i.e.) I was reluctant to reesign our website, but my employees talked me to it. 

 

2. talk someone out of something

- to convince someone not to do someting

- i.e.) we wanted to take on more debt, but our CFO talked us out of it

 

3. the elephant in the room

- an obvious problem or controversial issue that no one wants to discuss

- i.e.) we should have discussed our pending litigation, but no one wanted to talk about the elephant in the room.

 

4. think outside the box

- to think of creative, unconventional solutions instead of common ones

- i.e.) our current approach will get us nowhere. we have to think outside the box

 

5. touch base

- to make contact with someone

- i.e.) I will touch base with you later today
