- someone who is difficult to get to know or understand, or someone who is tricky to deal with
- i.e.) Yes, I'm enjoying my new job. my boss, though, is a hard nut to crack. I'm having difficulty in understanding what he wants
5. a hot potato
- an issue, probably from current events, that is causing a lot of discussion and controversy
- i.e.) the family tried to avoid bringing up political hot potatoes during the holidays
