1. a far cry from (something) - 와는 거리가 먼, 멀리서 외치는

- has a great many differences from something

- i.e.) that movie was a far cry from anything I would like. I just did not enjoy it

 

2. a fifth wheel

- useless or unnecessary

- i.e.) the team decided that the additional guest speaker was a fifth wheel and not necessary to include

 

3. a flash in the pan (일시적인 성공)

- something that seems promising at first but ultimately doesn't deliver anything

- i.e.) we were excited about what happened, but it ended up being a flash in the pan. nothing came of it.

 

4. a fool and his money are easily parted (어리석은 사람은 곧 가난해진다)

- it's easy to convince a foolish person to give you their money for something silly

- i.e.) I can't believe so many people have bought the product from that questionable infomercial. well, you know what they say! a fool and his money are easily parted

 

5. A for effort

- made an excellent effort (but might not have done very well otherwise)

- i.e.) I have to give the script writers an A for effort, but I don't feel that the program came together very well in the end
